NGO Fund (2009 Call)
Title: Pachna Childcare Facility
Acronym: PCVC
Coordinator: Pachna Community volunteerism council
Total requested funding: 53,642
Summary of Project:
The rural community of Cyprus generally has limited access to childcare services in comparison to the urban community. The majority of such services is organised by the NGO community, still with space and facility inadequacies. Children in the rural areas have the right to receive support in their studies, live in a safe and pleasant environment and participate in activities with which they develop their personality, social skills and team work. The parents often have to work until late in the afternoon and do not have enough time to attend to their children. Often they lack the knowledge and skills to support their children in their studies.
The aim of this project is to develop a childcare facility in the premises of the old Pachna Elementary School in order for children of the Krasoxwria region to benefit from improved services and their families to rest assured that their children are occupied and assisted in doing their homework as well as participate in constructive activities.
The secondary aim of the project is also to develop an exploitation plan of the facility in order to ensure its viability and explore its possible shared use by the Pachna Community Volunteerism Council and other organisations for the benefit of children. The project will also involve the relevant stakeholders such as public bodies, Community Councils, other NGOs active in improving the life conditions in rural areas with particular attention to children, in order to turn the facility a landmark for childcare provision in the region.
It is strongly believed that the construction of the new childcare facility and the provision of the necessary equipment to render it fully operational until the end of the project, will relieve the neighbouring communities in regards to childcare provision and will be a means of strengthening rural life in order for families to be able to stay in their community instead of being forced to move to the city to receive better childcare facilities.
Interfusion Services Ltd participates in this project as a subcontractor.
